Public policy is the primary focus of the California Growers Association. Our work is organized into 4 main sub programs: electoral affairs, regulatory affairs, regional affairs and legislative affairs.
In 2015 our primary focus was legislative affairs. Through 2016 we have shifted focus to a more balanced approach that features a more balanced focus on legislative affairs, regulatory affairs and local government. We have engaged in limited activity in electoral politics. Given the responses to our strategic planning survey, it is likely that regional affairs will become a higher priority in the 2017. In addition, we continue to build capacity to collaborate with the regulatory agencies, specifically the Department of Food and Agriculture.
Hezekiah directs the the public policy program; Jason is the lead on legislative affairs; Susan is the lead on regional affairs and local engagement. The three work together on all aspects of public policy. The leadership team is supported by the policy committee, which meets weekly on Tuesday and by the advisors who are on call to provide support.
