In October Governor Brown signed landmark bi-partisan legislation (the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act – MMRSA). MMRSA establishes a robust statewide framework to regulate medical cannabis.
Consisting of three bills—AB 243, AB 266, and SB 643—MMRSA brought together a broad coalition of lawmakers and elected officials.
The multi-agency regulatory program to license and regulate the cultivation, manufacturing, transportation, distribution and sales of medical marijuana.
In particular, the regulations seek to solve problems related to environmental protection and public health and safety.
Under the new laws, the Department of Consumer Affairs will be issuing licenses to cannabis businesses and monitoring compliance.
The legislation is strong on local control. No business will be able to seek a license unless it first obtains a permit from its local governing body.
This event will focus on increasing understanding of the recently passed legislation and building partnerships between regulatory agencies, local government, and the cannabis community.
“We are really excited to be able to bring such talented and focused group of policy makers to the central coast. This type of dialogue is the foundation of solving problems. If we work together we can improve public safety, protect natural resources, and build prosperous local economies. That starts with open conversation.”
